Message from the President

I am excited and honoured to be NSIA President for the 2015/16 year.  I believe NSIA is an excellent organization for the Professionals in the Agriculture Industry. NSIA is changing and evolving as any organization and the current council is working hard for our members to make this organization current and so that it meets the needs of our members, the industry and the general public.  All NSIA committee members have a strong passion for the Institute as well as for the NS Agriculture Industry and we hope to accomplish a lot during the year.

For those of you that don’t know me, I grew up on a dairy farm in Old Barns, just outside of Truro and was involved in the 4-H program for many years.  I completed my B.Sc. in Animal Science at the former Nova Scotia Agricultural College and afterwards completed my M.Sc. (Animal Science) again from the former NSAC.  Once graduated I was lucky to accept a position with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture as the 4-H Specialist for the Central Region, or Agricultural Leadership Coordinator as the position is called presently.  In this role I spend a lot my time working with the amazing 4-H volunteer leaders and members. I help develop resources, do programming and put on workshops in my region and on a provincial basis.  As well I work with the Central Region Department of Agriculture team to help producers in our region.

I am looking forward to the coming year and working with council as well as Laurie Eagles, our Executive Director to move issues forward and to represent NS Professional Agrologists.

Respectfully submitted, Jacqueline Hoyt, P.Ag.
