Thomas will speak about his work at Perennia coordinating the installation of a new on-farm weather station network and using drones as a tool for crop production and research. \nThomas Harrington\, BSc (Agr.)\, CCA\, is the Agriculture Technology Specialist at Perennia. Thomas’ role at Perennia is to support and promote the adoption of agricultural technologies related to climate and crop management. Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Dalhousie’s Faculty of Agriculture\, where he majored in Integrated Environmental Management. After graduating\, Thomas worked in wild blueberry production and research in Nova Scotia. Before joining Perennia\, Thomas worked on Prince Edward Island in precision agriculture product sales and support\, focusing on machine GPS guidance systems and data management. This presentation aims to educate and give space for open conversation with no judgment. \nHolly is originally from Halifax\, Nova Scotia and completed a Masters’ in Agriculture at the Dalhousie’s Faculty of Agriculture in 2021\, which focused on the use of cricket meal in the diets of poultry. With a passion for agriculture\, Holly has been working for Farm Credit Canada for the past three years and is excited to continue learning about agriculture \nHolly is an active member of the Truro\, Nova Scotia community\, working with Ally: How an educational speaker series teaching organizations in Nova Scotia how to be effective allies to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. DESCRIPTION:Join us with guest presenter Alex Buckley of Rhize\, to discuss cannabis growing\, the Canadian cannabis industry\, its triumphs and current issues\, and the company he launched in 2022 called Rhize. Rhize is a fertilizer and consulting company that provides consulting to home growers\, gardeners growing various crops\, and professional licensed producers. \nAlex’s love for agriculture began with cannabis. He was a recreational user at first\, and later noticed how much it was amplifying the benefits of rehabilitation practices that he had adopted to reverse physical and mental ailments\, and it became a regular ritual for him to combine the two. \nHe has held many positions in the cannabis industry since its legalization in 2017. Alex was a Lead IPM/Cultivation Tech\, a Research & Development Tech\, a Master Grower and helped build Dalhousie University’s first cannabis production course\, which he taught for 3 semesters. He also holds a bachelor of business degree from his hometown university in Saint John\, a bachelor of science degree from Dalhousie University majoring in plants sciences and is security cleared by Health Canada. \nRegister Here!

DESCRIPTION:In the month of March\, volunteers from our agriculture industry will be visiting Grade 3 and 4 classrooms across the province to talk about agriculture in Nova Scotia and their own personal career journey. Canadian Agricultural Literacy Month began in Nova Scotia and is now a national initiative sponsored by Agriculture in the Classroom-Canada. It’s an important way we build public trust in our farming sector by educating students about where their food comes from\, what agricultural careers look like\, what agriculture in Nova Scotia looks like\, and why it’s an industry they should be proud of. \nIf any members are interested in visiting a classroom\, please contact Dawn Barrington-Hodgson at ag.education@novascotia.ca by February 28.
